From the comfortable confines of a quiet retirement home, Shigeki caresses the memories of his deceased wife, Mako. Machiko, a young nurse with a strikingly similar name, begins to bond with Shigeki while grieving over the recent loss of her son. Given the chance to adventure away from the home on Shigeki's birthday, Machiko and Shigeki depart on a journey that ultimately leads them into the depths of the vast forest. A stunning depiction of nature and its ability to both disorient and console wandering souls, The Mourning Forest is a tender letter written to the peace within our hearts.
