The Émigré - Everything is Different
Running time: 100 mins
A writer with an audience of one.
Writer and journalist Sandor Marai was an iconoclast and revolutionary no longer welcome in his homeland of Hungary. Widely scorned in Hungary, Marai sought refuge in San Diego, California where he embarked on an arduous journey of three-pronged love: for his wife, the country that had spurned him and the vehicle for his quest, his lively and poignant prose. Struggling with outside forces and inner demons, Marai discovers a cruel irony: to experience the deepest love, it is necessary to endure the abysmal depths of loneliness. But in spite of his personal, aching isolation, Marai finds that in the end, love can indeed be triumphant, perhaps even eternal.
