Adapted from Nobel laureate writer Imre Kertesz's story "Fateless," Miscalculation takes place in an unnamed country where a secret police force maintains order ?or this is what people have been led to believe. A supermarket tycoon, Hoffman, begins to ponder the disappearance of his friends while watching his son fall further into a pit of depression. Knowing it would only be a matter of time before rock-bottom came knocking on his son?s door, Hoffman designs an ingenious ploy to oust the secret police and give his son something to live for. Everything proceeds as planned until Hoffman's son is taken in for questioning and all begins to unravel. From a kitchen abundant with fresh vegetables, to a dimly lit room with unknown faces, Miscalculation begins with intrigue and ends soaked in subterfuge.
