"My Brother Anton" is a filmic release of the pain
of watching someone descend into a debilitating mental illness. This personal documentary seeks to capture the truth, but instead of concerning itself with
only 'the facts' it is equally concerned with an
emotional truth. Images attempt to capture accurate emotions, and in this way, the film endeavors to be more truthful than documentaries that capture 'live' and 'real' events in a literal manner.
The raw and gritty style of the film is inspired by
the tradition of Mexican and Italian ex votos, the
home made street memorials made to honor tragedies, lost loved ones and miracles.
