Truth or Dare
Running time: 89 mins
At some time or other growing up we have all concealed a truth from our parents. But Annika has taken it to an extreme. A year before her final exams, she has flunked out of school, a fact she cannot dare tell her adoring parents. So she creates a charade, going off to school each morning, only to hide out all day in an abandoned bus in a junkyard. And like all charades, the more Annika tries to conceal, the deeper she sinks into it, making it impossible to confess the truth.
At a time when keeping up her lie becomes the most important part of her life, Annika befriends Kai, a kindred soul she meets in the junkyard. While Kai is the one person who truly understands Annika, her heart belongs to a tutor hired by her unsuspecting parents. But the lie engulfs Annika?s life, and she must find a way to confront life and be true to herself before it destroys her.
Directors Jan Martin Scharf and Arne Nolting?s Truth or Dare is an affectionate coming of age story filled with humor, romance and the adventure of youth. Katharina Schüttler (Sophiiie! ? Cinequest, 2003) brilliantly portrays Annika, who is not a rebel at heart. She merely does not want to devastate her parents, who have planned a life and career for her that is not meant to be. ?? a kick-ass performance by Katharina Schüttler captures puberty?s wavering uncertainty? -- Variety
