The Gold Bracelet

Running time: 140 mins

Like most immigrants, Arjun Singh brought his family to America with the hope of creating a better life. So far, his wishes have been realized, and the future looks promising. One dream remains: the marriage of his daughter, Simrun, to a promising family friend.

An independent, determined young woman, Simrun at first protests the marriage arrangements her parents want to make. After all, she has her heart set on a boy at school, and she?s living in a different time and culture from the ones in which her parents were married. Simrun?s loyalty to her father, however, guides her ultimate decision, and Arjun prepares to pass on his beloved, traditional gold bracelet to his daughter?s fiancé.

But as the overjoyed family plans the wedding ceremonies, a national disaster strikes: terrorists attack the World Trade Center. The American crisis becomes a personal one for the Singhs, whose patriotism means little to angry citizens eager to find a target for revenge. As the family?s life takes an abrupt and harrowing turn, it struggles to rebuild itself and to maintain faith in their traditions and in America.

An important and timely work, director Kavi Raz?s first feature film exposes the challenges faced by those who come to America for new possibilities and find cultural prejudice. Ultimately a story of hope amidst senseless tragedy, The Gold Bracelet celebrates the uniqueness of different people and the enduring power of love.
