Two Great Sheep

Running time: 100 mins

Deshan is an old farmer living at the outskirts of a remote village. He shares a hard, but serene, destiny with his fellow villagers until the government intervenes in his life in the form of two rare foreign sheep sent to improve the old farmer's life and the village's poor economy.

The sheep are like mysterious and beautiful mythological beings from another world?divine beings?and Deshan, their chosen guardian, becomes the talk of the village. But the sheep require ?fancy food? and specific care?more than Deshan would have imagined for the children he has never had. And as any father, his loving commitment to the creatures and his simple naïveté serve only to guide Deshan toward his purpose.

Two Great Sheep is a remarkable second feature by Shanghai-born director Liu Hao, who gives his distinctive urban perspective to the rural China landscape?a harsh geography of solid, ancient elegance. Featuring a brilliant performance by Sun Yunkun, it is a story that weaves a magical spell upon the viewer and immediately captivates.
