The Man Who Copied
Running time: 124 mins
André is a 20-year-old high school dropout who operates the photocopy machine at a stationery-cum-bookstore and lives with his mother. He likes drawing. He really likes Silvia. And he desperately needs $38.
Too shy to approach Silvia on the bus, André follows her to work where he feigns interest in buying a $38 bathrobe. In order to see Silvia again, he promises to return soon with the money. Now, all he has to do is figure out how to get it. Nothing a good copy machine, the right kind of paper and one $50 bill can?t remedy. André soon realizes that he can earn a lot more than $38, and, with the help of a sexy lady and her kooky boyfriend, André finds himself in trouble with more than the law.
The man who copied yields a unique vision and winningly personal style from director Jorge Furtado who perfectly blends drama, comedy and romance to create an impressive, moving portrait of Brazil and its people. The man who copied is a visual feast that tells an endearing story of yearning, both for money and for love.
