The Quicksilver Chronicles
Running time: 72 mins
Gone, Daddy, Gone.
New Idria, once a silver mining town with a population of 300 at its peak, is now home to 2 Kate and Kemp Wood. Joined by friend Tom Chargin, a photographer who loves to talk; and filmmakers Ben Guez and Sasha Kulak, the Woods go through their lives in the town that was once the second-largest producer of mercury in the U.S. and is now a polluted Superfund site. Shot mostly handheld, bringing an immediacy to every encounter, The Quicksilver Chronicles engages through fascinating interactions captured between these incredibly rich characters. The film plays out within the bleak, yet beautiful, landscape of New Idria, and allows us to engage with the unique emotional impact of events that echo through the hills. Chris Garcia
