The Last Horror Movie

Max Parry is a mild-mannered wedding photographer who leads a fairly dull life with one minor exception - he is a serial killer. By luring his innocent subjects home with the enticement of a bad-teen slasher movie, Max, with the help of his nerdy and inept assistant, is able to satisfy his appetite, both literally and figuratively, as he brings delicious cuts of meat home to his parents. Max narrates in murderously humorous fashion, caustically advising us of the meaninglessness of the lives of his victims, as he shares with us his psycho-killer mentality and his technique for each brutal murder. But nothing prepares us for what lies ahead. It's rare to find a truly memorable shocker movie anymore, but Julian Richards' The Last Horror Movie keeps us spellbound in horror, while making us feel appalled at our own laughter. Reminiscent of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, but with the more comedic underpinnings of American Psycho, it takes us on a journey through the mind of a sick, but slick, individual dying to show us the mayhem and murder he commits with such pride. While it may be disturbing to watch this film, what is more frightening is the vulnerability we feel when faced with the thought that people like Max may be out there, just waiting for the right time to take us home for dinner. Note: Contains graphic violence. Sandy Wolf EMERGING MAVERICKS & NEW VISIONS
