Love Hurts
Running time: N/A
Renata is the pampered eldest daughter of a wealthy bourgeois family, and Ulises is a native Mexican youth from the wrong side of the tracks. When the two meet in a shopping mall, it is love at first sight. They exchange a kiss and are soon organizing secret assignations and exchanging vows of eternal love. The young couple soon learns that class and race prejudices are still strong in modern Mexico. Neither friends (on either side) nor family are very accommodating. Renata's snobbish parents are appalled by her choice in lovers, going so far as to attempt to end the affair by packing her off to Canada. Meanwhile, the affair sends ripples through their circle of friends, and it will take all of Renata and Ulises' love to avoid the impending violent confrontation. But are they too late? Director Fernando Sariñana's confident technique blends stunning visuals with a hip soundtrack to bring his modern Romeo and Juliet to life - as star-crossed lovers traverse boundaries to be together in the chaos of Mexico City.
