Celebrated by Variety magazine, Pa?l Jackman's Detector is a compelling, visionary work about uncovering the past and learning one's own identity. Daniel has one hobby (metal detecting), one job (new), one mother (domineering), and no father (dead). In his job as a psychologist, he looks into the lives of patients of varying confusion-while attempting to gain independence from his domineering mother. Daniel is also seeking clues about the dead father he never knew, as it is quite possible Mother has not told the whole truth.. One day, Daniel and his friend, Ronny, find a lost necklace with the inscription "Janne." Ronny announces the discovery on the radio, and Janne suddenly appears to reclaim her necklace. Daniel and Janne fall in love, prompting Daniel to finally leave his mother's home. Just as suddenly as Janne appears, however, she disappears. At the same time, Max, a mysterious patient of Daniel's, may have a secret of his own that he is afraid to share with Daniel. Part mystery, part psychological profile, Detector is an engaging journey through one man's search to put together the missing pieces of the puzzle of his life. Reviewed by Sandy Wolf
