After working for three years in the United States, Filiberto, a young Mexican peasant, returns to his native village hoping to remake his life and gain the respect he thinks he is due. Things have changed in his absence. His mother has died, and Luis, his best friend, has married Filiberto's ex-girlfriend, Soledad. More of an immediate problem, however, is that the oppressive owner of the Hacienda wants to recruit Filiberto to help exploit the village's water supply. Soon, Luis and his family take a stand against the Hacienda, and Filiberto is caught up in a war he would just as soon avoid--if only it weren't for Soledad. To and Fro marks Salvador Aguirre's debut in features. It is a haunting, intelligent action-drama where hard knocks come with the hard choices -- where the only way to live is to fight injustice. But it is also the story of a man whose pureness of heart will be threatened. Preceded by: Quiero Morir. The tale of the psychological war between a cop and killer, where revenge and morality play opposite roles. Director/Film Info: Toni Meca / Spain / 15min. Reviewed by Al Owens
