World Premiere Sure to be an audience-pleaser, Dinner and a Movie is an intricately drawn and comically vivid romance from first-time feature film director Lisa Kors. Katie is an idealistic filmmaker, hell-bent on creating the next Great American Documentary. According to Katie, however, time is running out. Her parents have suddenly asked for their "student loan" money back -- with interest. Her day job as a children's party entertainer is more humiliating than her glittery mermaid costume. Katie knows it's time to get her dream made. In desperation, Katie pitches her idea to a producer who agrees to support it--with one very big condition. Katie must first create a hip, reality TV show,...about dating...in rural Pittsfield, Massachusetts, a town whose name means just what it says. Accepting the job, Katie is soon faced with several big problems. She isn't very much of an expert (or even close) on the matter of dating. Her main subject, Jed, doesn't exactly light up the screen. And Katie soon finds herself not depicting the entire truth of this reality show. Cinequest is proud to present the World Premiere of Lisa Kors' Dinner and a Movie with filmmakers on hand to talk with the audience about the film. Reviewed by Al Owens
