Name: Janice Beard. Date of Birth: 1975. Parents: Father, Michael, dies in childbirth. Mother, Mimi, suffers from postnatal, post mortem depression and hasn't left the house in 23 years. Qualifications: Not many. Story: All Janice has ever wanted to do is show her mum that life outside their front door can be wonderful and exciting, even if it's mostly in Janice's wildly overactive imagination. But Mum's not budging. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Armed with a pitiful typing speed, Janice launches herself into a London job to earn money to cure Mum. Unfortunately, Janice's imaginative economy with the truth is rivaled by some very underhanded maneuverings by office heartthrob, Sean. Needless to say, Janice is soon wrapped up in all sorts of trouble involving romance, industrial espionage, and her overbearing boss, Julia. How Janice gets out of it all is something only she can tell you about. Director, Clare Kilner, first conceived Janice while "temping," a strange world where everyone knows what they're doing except you. "I remember once working at what seemed like a large bank doing data input. No one explained the job properly so I made it up as I went along...I expect I lost millions (of dollars) in the process." Such is the world of Janice Beard: 45WPM, a wildly comic tale with Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill), Patsy Kensit (Angels & Insects), and newcomer, Eileen Walsh, whose stunning performance is well worth the price of admission alone.
