Over My Dead Body

Running time: N/A

Fred is a cad of the first magnitude. He's smooth, winning over women with easy charm. Women can't help falling for him, but they also can't help eventually wishing the ruthless womanizer was dead. With the help of Udo Kier as a leather-clad hitman, femalekind's wish is fulfilled. If you think this minor setback slows Fred down for one minute, though, you're sorely wrong. While being transported to his eternal last-stop-on-the-line, Fred--so good at extricating himself from difficult situations--makes a deal with Death. He has three days--three days to go back and convince three specific women who have lost all faith in true love that it is still attainable. Unfortunately, it's a mystery to him as to who these women are. He must rely on clues and assistance from the most unlikely imaginable sources to have any hope of completing his mission. For instance, there's Fred's dearly departed mother, reincarnated as a smart-mouthed, plucked turkey. He also gets a hand from Rita, a plain-Jane do-gooder Fred had just days earlier cut down with a few biting comments about her future prospects. Speaking of prospects: Fred's, for a semi-permanent return to humankind, do not look good. Obstacles--some toting weapons of destruction--confront him at every turn. And what of love? It never meant anything to Fred in his own life, so how can he possibly hope to help others find it? A mixture of slapstick and the surreal, Over My Dead Body speeds along like a crazy, exhilarating funhouse ride. Don't miss the film that Variety in it's rave called "too funny to be German." --John Porter
