Plan 10 From Outer Space
Running time: N/A
"It's Fellini on an Ed Wood budget," says director Trent Harris. No kidding! Throw out all those American History texts that tell you why the Mormons settled in Utah and not someplace else. At last--believe it or not--the true origins of that fabled migration can now be told! Follow the adventures of the intrepid Lucinda, a slightly befuddled, non-practicing Mormon, as she seeks to unravel the deep dark secrets behind Brigham Young and his little-known twenty-eighth wife. With tongue firmly in cheek, filmmaker Harris takes a gentle poke at the strange goings on in that alien world that the rest of us call Utah and the Mormon Church. Discovering a cryptic plaque buried near the shores of the Great Salt Lake, Lucinda embarks on a strange and mysterious quest for the truth that puts her smack in the middle of a bizarre underworld, populated by an exhibitionist neighbor who dances around trance-like late at night in nothing but his underwear--and to whom the young girl finds herself inexplicably attracted--as well as other strange creatures from--where else--Outer Space. Filled with weird characters, a host of imaginatively costumed aliens, and a ripe-for-misadventure heroine, this sci-fi/detective genre send-up is a playful little romp that delivers plenty of laughs, slinging more than just a few arrows at some heretofore sacrosanct targets. A light-hearted excursion to other worlds that most of us will never quite understand--even if we wanted to--Plan 10 From Outer Space is inventive, imaginative, full of self-effacing humor, and a good deal of fun. --P.D.
