Blue Skies Are a Lie
Running time: N/A
Joseph Campana's (Keith Brunsmann) ABCs are like no one else's. "A" is for AIDS, Apartheid and Apocalypse. "B" is for Battle, Bombings and Brutality. "C" is for Crime, Chaos and Chemicals. Joseph has been keeping files on the earth's destruction for the past seven years, after discontinuing his career as a writer and photojournalist. As a matter of fact, Joseph hasn't even left his small apartment for the past seven years for fear of the world's eminent demise and the extinction of humanity. But now he's met Robyn (Julie Moses), his temporary mail carrier, who understands Joseph's predicament and always brings his mail, newspaper and the world's bad news right to his door. Robyn is a reserve postal worker, however, and the old guy is back on the route. Not knowing what has happened to her and finding himself very dependent upon her, Joseph forces himself outdoors to find the club where Robyn moonlights as a stand-up comedian. This turn of events is only the beginning of Joseph's journey of rediscovering the "real world" and Robyn's discovering herself. Writer/director Gregory Ruzzin has created a stylish, atmospheric film about the haunting world of an agoraphobic. Through it's construction of two very strong characters and thoughtfulness for emotions, BLUE SKIES ARE A LIE takes us straight into it's main characters' minds and into a world of dark humor and alienation, while examining the determination behind the human spirit. -- Mike Rabehl
