PART I: Inside Imageworks ? A Conversation with Joanna Burish and Nancy Rae Stone

This in-depth conversation between two highly experienced individuals will help the audience understand what a production company looks for in potential products to produce based upon what the current marketplace supports, what is required of a film to be picked up for distribution, and how production companies partner with a larger distribution entity such as Lionsgate or Regent Entertainment. This is a not-to-miss event for anyone with a film in the can or a project looking for funding.

Joanna Burish is an independent producer / distributor and was a former acquisitions/sales and development executive for Imageworks Entertainment. A successful businesswoman with a lifelong passion for the performing arts, Joanna's combination of business smarts and artistic sensibilities have enabled her to have a rich and diverse production background in film, television and music. In 1998, she launched a music production company with studios in Los Angeles and New York dedicated to discovering and integrating indie talent into mainstream venues. Joanna is also currently developing and producing feature films, television pilots, and several web-based viral films. She is heavily involved in the development of the financial structures and sources to support these projects.

Nancy Rae Stone, Independent Producer, First Light Films. As Executive Vice President of Production at Beacon Pictures, Nancy Rae Stone Line/Co-produced numerous feature films including John Dahl's The Last Seduction, with Linda Fiorentino, and American Heart, with Jeff Bridges. After completing Playing God, with Angelina Jolie and David Duchovny, she supervised the completion of Beacon?s blockbuster Air Force One starring Harrison Ford, after which she was invited to oversee all physical production for the company from script to final answer print. Her projects, with budgets from $4 million to $90 million, have included Family Man, The Hurricane, 13 Days, A Lot Like Love, The Emperor?s Club, Ladder 49, and PU-239 which recently aired on HBO.

Producer and writer Bobby Moresco is one of the most dynamic individuals in the film business today. Following enormous success with his Academy Award® winning films Million Dollar Baby and Crash, Moresco Productions is aggressively working on a variety of projects in film and television. This conversation will provide a glimpse into the workings of one of the most exciting production companies in the business. Moresco is joined on the stage with producing partner Mark Harris. Harris?s remarkable career has spanned several decades and involves working in the business from a variety of capacities. His lengthy and impressive resume includes projects with the top names in the business, and he has developed and managed top talent organizations. Don?t miss this exciting conversation with two powerhouse names in the business.

Before becoming an Academy Award® winning writer, Bobby Moresco started out as an actor in New York City. In 1978, Moresco moved to Los Angeles where he continued his theatre company, The Actor?s Gym. Since then, Moresco has written, produced and/or directed over 35 theatrical productions. Throughout the ?90s, Moresco focused much of his time creating, writing and producing television projects. Moresco co-wrote and produced the breakout film of 2004, Crash. In 2006, at the 78th Academy Awards®, Moresco and Haggis were awarded an Oscar for co-writing the film. In addition to winning in the Original Screenplay category, Crash won additional Oscars for Best Picture and Achievement in Editing. Moresco?s other projects include Million Dollar Baby (2005 Academy Award winner for Best Picture) which he co-produced and developed with Paul Haggis, as well as the films Heat for Walden Media, and Rule of Nines, which are both in development. He is currently directing the coming-of-age film The Kings of Appletown, starring Cole and Dylan Sprouse. Currently, Moresco has several high-profile projects in post-production, production or pre-production. He was born in New York City and was raised in the Hell?s Kitchen district of Manhattan. Today he is married with two daughters and lives in Los Angeles.

Mark R. Harris? extraordinary career as a pioneer in talent management and production packaging evolved from his personal experiences in finance and acting. With a working background on Wall Street and in Hollywood, he built a multifaceted resume representing some of the biggest names in film, television and music. In late 2001, Harris began his latest endeavor, The Harris Company, in order to produce larger budget films. Amongst others, he produced the 2005 Academy Award® winner for Best Picture; Crash which also won for Best Original Screenplay and Best Editing. In addition, the highly acclaimed film was also awarded the 2005 Independent Spirit Award for Best Feature Film, the 2005 A.F.I. Award, the Screen Actors Guild award for Best Ensemble, the 2005 NAACP Image Award for Best Picture and numerous others for writing, directing and acting. And while filmmaking is where Harris devotes the majority of his time these days, he is currently Co-Executive Producer for the new 2006 NBC series, The Black Donnellys, along with Academy Award® winning writers of Crash, Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco.

Moderator: Robert G. Phelps is an attorney with the Santa Clara County Public Defender Office. He is a screenwriter and lecturer who has written for ScreenTalk Magazine. As a feature writer, he has covered skysurfing for Parachutist Magazine and the San Jose SaberCats for CNN/Sports Illustrated and the San Jose Mercury News. At Cinequest, he created the Day of the Writer.

Following the conversation, Cinequest will present its highest honor, the Maverick Spirit Award, to Bobby Moresco for his work in film.

PART III: Digital Cinematography ? Demystifying a Technological Diversity

High definition digital cameras and camcorders are proliferating as major regions of the world transition to HDTV broadcasting and as high resolution digital acquisition offers an alternate to motion picture film origination. There is now a broad hierarchy of HD acquisition systems that are defined by a diversity of image format sizes (with associated impact on optical performance), camera imager technologies, camera digital processing and an ever-widening range of digital image recording technologies. Digital 4K cameras promise imaging beyond HD. Pricing of these digital systems range from less than $1,000 to north of $200,000. This seminar will describe the breadth of contemporary high-resolution digital cinematography systems and all that distinguishes one flavor of HD from another.

Presenter: Laurence J. Thorpe, National Marketing Executive, Broadcast and Communications, Canon U.S.A. Mr. Thorpe is a visionary who helped pioneer HD and digital production in the broadcast and motion picture industry. He recently retired from his post as senior vice president of content creation systems for the broadcast and production systems division at Sony Electronics Inc. where his vision led the world to a digital revolution.

Presenter: John Galt, Senior Vice President of Advanced Digital Imaging, Panavision. John Galt is currently the Senior Vice President of Advanced Digital Imaging at Panavision?s corporate office. His responsibilities at Panavision include the development of digital imaging technologies in support of Panavision?s core motion picture and television production business. John Galt was previously employed as Vice President, High Definition Technology Development for Sony Pictures High Definition Center. He holds numerous U.S., British, and Japanese patents in film and electronic imaging related areas.
