Shorts Competition Program 3: Escape
Running time: 126 mins
People?s innate desire for escape is one thread woven through each of these insightful short films. Many of the colorful characters here possess a strong desire to break away from poverty, loneliness, or a mundane existence, and move toward some imagined, happier place. Sometimes simply having their world crumble around them is enough to shake their foundation and get on to a better life.Among the subjects is an impoverished young Brazilian boy building a boat to get to the next island; a young exterminator delving into a fantasy that becomes more and more real; a Southern California bride-to-be is shaken out of her privileged tunnel vision by a quick street crime; and two neighboring music lovers find each other through the common wall of their apartments.
