Who Loves the Sun
Running time: 101 mins
Combining the powers of observance and understatement, director Matt Bissonnette renders a thoughtful and evocative portrayal of three friends who struggle to find meaning in their lives. Will (Lukas Haas) and Daniel (Adam Scott) were the best of friends. They grew up together, went to the same schools, liked the same records, and loved the same girls. Daniel was also Will's best man at his wedding to Maggie (Molly Parker). One day, Will disappears without a word. Five years later, the worn and ragged Will resurfaces at the summer home of Daniel?s parents. It is soon obvious that Will and Daniel are no longer that close; in fact, they seem to hate each other. Events soon escalate into a storm, as the weekend unwinds in a series of comic recriminations, sad misunderstandings and strange revelations.
Beautiful cinematography, a delicate and subtle soundtrack scored by Portastatic?including songs by indie rock cornerstone Silver Jews?funny dialogue and nuanced performances from all three leads bring this love triangle to life. Who Loves the Sun is a sincere and damaged comi-drama that thoughtfully tackles issues of betrayal, forgiveness and friendship.
