Swedish Auto

Running time: 97 mins

Lukas Haas (Witness, Brick, Rambling Rose) stars as Carter, a voyeur who finds he?s not alone in Derek Sieg?s evocative Swedish Auto. By day, Carter introspectively works as a small town car mechanic. By night, he is a voyeur, deriving vicarious pleasures watching the beautiful Ann play her violin. Carter?s world takes an abrupt turn when he discovers that the observer is being observed. Darla, the waitress who serves at the local diner, is watching him.

Carter is a man of mystery to others, as well as to himself. He's not a talker and rarely says much to his only friends or co-workers. When Carter finds himself drawing closer to Darla, his humdrum routine begins to assume more joy. But when Ann brings her car into the shop for a repair, the equilibrium that Carter and Darla have developed is turned upside down--and it's soon apparent that Darla hides something deeper.

As unpredictable as life, Swedish Auto is a moving and delicate observation of loneliness that purrs like a finely tuned engine. Spot-on performances?especially from Haas and January Jones?and Sieg?s thoughtful script are flawlessly combined for a wonderful mix of human emotion.
