Stolen money, broken lives, half-truths, love and friendship make up director Federico Hidalgo?s dramatic comedy about an alluring Mexican woman who has come to Montreal in search of the husband who cut her life in two when he abandoned her in Mexico.

In Montreal, Teresa meets Fenton, a grocery store produce stock boy who almost immediately falls in love with her. Fenton convinces Teresa to let him help her find her husband. They soon discover that finding the missing man won?t be easy, as they encounter a string of comical characters whose stories lead to the discovery that the man they are searching for has more lives than a cat orphanage. Exasperating the situation, Teresa isn?t everything she seems, and as Fenton unravels the enigma of both her and her missing husband, the plot boils to a final emotional climax that leaves no one unscathed.

Springing from the same vein of Stephen Frears? Dirty Pretty Things, Hidalgo?s Imitation captures the city of Montreal through a colorful cast of characters, and through Hidalgo and Paulina Robles? inspired script, the viewer is treated to a story that is often quirky and emotional and always daring.
