Edmond - with Maverick Spirit Guest William H. Macy
Running time: 90 mins
Maverick Spirit recipient William H. Macy to attend this special presentation.
Cinequest Maverick Spirit Award recipient William H. Macy is one of today?s most adventurous and dynamic actors, so it?s no surprise when he effortlessly brings the character of Edmond Burke to life. A dark comedy written by another of today?s masters, David Mamet (adapted from his play), Edmond follows a cynical businessman as he sets out on a terrifying, existential search for truth, self-discovery and salvation.
As he realizes that he has wasted his life, Edmond abandons his tedious existence?walking out on his wife and deciding to live honestly and express his true feelings. Edmond soon finds that ?real life? is dark, turbulent, and volatile. He?s robbed, beaten, humiliated, and left at rock bottom. Yet, beneath it all lurks an odd comfort?something he has never felt before; a comfort founded on wild, sexual encounters, bloody murders, and anything else one would expect from the back alleys of New York City.
Director Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator) and Macy superbly translate Mamet?s text to the screen, creating an unnerving atmosphere that is at once arresting, turbulent, poignant and humorous. Including a strong supporting cast (among them Julia Stiles, Joe Mantegna, Bai Ling, Mena Suvari, Denise Richards and Dylan Walsh), Edmond is a powerful Maverick vision that is a must.
This presentation will be followed by a lively conversation with William H. Macy, moderated by Cinequest President, Kathleen Powell.
Kathleen is the President and co-Founder of Cinequest. Additionally, she has produced three successful independent feature films. Concurrently, she has succeeded as a leading technology manager at Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies.
